Senate Joint Resolution No. 200 Summary

• Proposes an amendment to Article Twenty-first of the Connecticut Constitution to expand the equal protection clause's definition of sex-based discrimination.

• Defines sex discrimination to include discrimination based on pregnancy (including preventing, initiating, continuing, or terminating a pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and related health care.

• Applies the expanded definition to discrimination in intent or effect in the exercise or enjoyment of civil or political rights.

• Designates the ballot language for the November 5, 2024 general election asking voters: "Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to amend the equal protection clause to provide that discrimination on the basis of sex includes discrimination based on pregnancy, sexual orientation and gender identity and expression?"
