Municipalities would gain authority to prohibit the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits in pet shops within their jurisdiction, notwithstanding existing state pet shop regulations in chapter 435

Amends Section 7-148 of the general statutes, which governs municipal powers and duties

Maintains existing municipal authority to regulate animals at large, prevent animal cruelty, regulate keeping of wild/domestic animals, and continues the prohibition on breed-specific dog ordinances

Effective date: October 1, 2025
