Students ages 5-18 enrolled in public or private schools shall be granted one excused absence per school year to observe a religious holiday, with additional days at the local board of education's discretion

Religious holiday absences will not count toward truancy thresholds (4 unexcused absences per month or 10 per school year)

Students and parents/guardians must obtain assignments from teachers prior to the religious holiday absence and complete them upon return to school

Effective date: July 1, 2025
