Fair rent commissions must notify parties of their rights and the commission's lawful authority both in writing and through an announcement at the beginning of each hearing, effective July 1, 2025

Municipalities with populations of 25,000 or more must establish fair rent commissions; smaller municipalities may voluntarily create them or form joint commissions with other towns

Fair rent commissions have jurisdiction over rental charges for housing accommodations, including mobile manufactured homes and park lots, excluding seasonal rentals (120 days or less per year)
