Commissioner of Social Services must amend the Medicaid state plan to increase reimbursement rates for rural community hospitals to match Medicare rates for the same services

"Community hospital in a rural area" is defined as a nonfederal acute care hospital designated by the Connecticut State Office of Rural Health as rural, open to the general public, and located outside metropolitan areas

Metropolitan area designation is determined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget and U.S. Census Bureau
