Municipalities may appoint an acting building official for up to 180 days when the regular building official experiences death, disability, dismissal, retirement, license revocation, or extended absence of 15+ consecutive days (effective July 1, 2025)

Accessible parking space width requirements (15 feet for passenger vehicles, 16 feet for vans) may be superseded by the State Building Code if greater widths are needed to accommodate electric vehicle charging stations (effective October 1, 2025)

Elevator and escalator certificates of operation may only be renewed if the equipment passed its most recent inspection and has no outstanding violations of applicable law (effective October 1, 2025)

Initial elevator/escalator certificate of operation costs $250, with biennial renewals at $240; certificates must be posted conspicuously and are valid for 12 months initially

Private residence elevators are exempt from the certificate renewal requirement, and state agencies pay no fees
