Medical reports for workplace injuries must be furnished to employers and employees not later than 30 days after completion, and administrative law judges may penalize physicians, surgeons, or third-party vendors who fail to comply, including fines up to $500 payable to the claimant.

Healthcare institutions must provide electronic copies of patient medical records to other institutions within 6 days for urgent requests or 7 business days for non-urgent requests.

Institutions must provide electronic copies of medical records to a patient's attorney within 20 business days of receiving a request.

Maximum charges for medical records provided to patients, their attorneys, or authorized representatives are capped at the greater of fees allowed under 45 CFR 164.524(c)(4) or $250, plus postage and reasonable imaging costs.
