Extends the minimum holding period for firearms, deadly weapons, and ammunition seized under risk protection orders from one year to two years before destruction is permitted

Changes the trigger for the holding period from the date of warrant termination to the date the person last petitioned the court to terminate the order or warrant

Applies to items held by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection or local police departments acting on the commissioner's behalf

Requires destruction of seized items after the two-year period if they have not been transferred back to the owner under existing transfer provisions

Effective October 1, 2026
