Commissioner of Social Services must amend the Medicaid state plan to integrate peer support services into care teams and provide Medicaid reimbursement to peer support specialists, effective July 1, 2026

Peer support services are defined as recovery-focused behavioral health services helping individuals manage their recovery with assistance from a peer support specialist

Peer support specialists must be certified through the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and may have personal experience recovering from mental illness or substance use disorder

Commissioner must submit a report to the Human Services and Public Health committees by August 1, 2027, covering the number of reimbursed specialists, number of Medicaid enrollees served, and treatment outcome data
