Grocery stores must provide at least one manual checkout station for every two self-checkout stations and assign at least one employee to monitor every two self-checkout stations, with monitors prohibited from performing other duties simultaneously

Maximum of eight self-checkout stations permitted per grocery store location at any time

Employees or customers may file complaints with the Labor Commissioner for violations; stores that fail to take corrective action within 30 days face daily civil penalties equal to a full day's wages of the highest-paid retail clerk

Retaliation protections established for employees or customers who file good-faith complaints, with civil action available in Superior Court for violations

Effective October 1, 2026; applies to stores deriving a majority of retail sales from groceries (excluding alcoholic beverages and cannabis products)
