SB 225 Summary

• Protects voter email addresses obtained through registration and absentee voting activities from Freedom of Information requests and dissemination outside the Department of Elections.

• Changes the withdrawal deadline for Primary Elections from the last Friday to the second Tuesday, and moves the absentee ballot application deadline from the first Friday in August to the first Friday after the second Tuesday in July at 4:30 p.m.

• Establishes permanent absentee status for registered voters who are disabled or eligible under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizen Absentee Voters Act (UOCAVA), allowing automatic ballot delivery for each election without reapplying.

• Creates a free, internet-accessible system allowing absentee voters to track their application status, ballot transmission date, ballot receipt, and whether their ballot was counted.

• Authorizes the State Election Commissioner to implement additional provisions of the Uniformed and Overseas Citizen Absentee Voters Act not specifically mandated by state law.
