SB 69 Summary

• Allows schools that are members of the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association and offer contact or collision sports to use academic excellence units to hire a school-employed athletic trainer licensed by the Delaware Board of Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers.

• Use of academic excellence units for athletic trainer employment is discretionary, not mandatory for school districts.

• Prohibits school districts from using pupil units provided under § 1703 of Title 14 to employ a licensed athletic trainer.

• Adds recognition of the "athletic trainer" job title to Delaware Code Title 14 to enable schools with available state funds to directly employ full-time athletic trainers when matched with local funds.
