SB 90 Summary

• Requires the Department of Health and Social Services to establish accreditation standards for facilities performing invasive medical procedures that are not otherwise licensed by the Department.

• Mandates that existing facilities submit proof of accreditation or accreditation application within 6 months of regulation adoption, and new facilities within 12 months of opening.

• Requires facilities to submit accrediting organization survey reports to the Department within 30 days, allowing these reports to substitute for the Department's own periodic surveys.

• Prohibits physicians, podiatrists, dentists, and other licensed professionals under Title 24 chapters 5, 11, and 17 from performing invasive procedures in any facility unless that facility is accredited or licensed.

• Directs the Department to form a stakeholder group including physician specialists, dental and podiatric representatives, and patient advocates to advise on accreditation regulation development by March 31, 2012.
