Increases minimum prison sentences for prohibited persons who knowingly possess, purchase, own, or control a firearm or destructive weapon from 1 year to 3 years at Level V for those with prior violent felony convictions.

Increases minimum sentence from 3 years to 5 years at Level V for prohibited persons who possess firearms within 10 years of a violent felony conviction or release from incarceration for such conviction.

Increases minimum sentence from 5 years to 10 years at Level V for prohibited persons with 2 or more separate violent felony convictions who possess firearms.

Removes provisions allowing for negligent injury or death caused by a firearm to be charged separately with its own minimum sentencing structure.

Elevates illegal firearm possession by prohibited persons from a class D felony to a class C felony when the person is eligible for sentencing under the enhanced minimum sentence provisions.
