Creates new crime of "Possession of a Firearm or Destructive Weapon in a Safe School Zone" classified as a Class D felony.

Defines "Safe School Zone" as any building, structure, athletic field, sports stadium, or real property owned/operated/leased/rented by public or private schools, including kindergarten through vocational-technical schools, and school-owned motor vehicles.

Provides affirmative defenses for firearms possessed during authorized school instruction, school-authorized sporting/recreational activities, in private residences/businesses/vehicles on public highways, and in school vehicles when attending legitimate school functions.

Eliminates juveniles from the general "possession of a weapon in a Safe School and Recreation Zone" statute under Section 1457, removing references to destructive weapons and certain firearm offenses from the underlying crimes list.

Requires expulsion of elementary or secondary school students for at least 180 days if they possess a firearm in a Safe School Zone, with case-by-case modification permitted by school boards; exempts law enforcement and security officers.
