Drivers of motor vehicles must remove accumulated ice and snow from hood, trunk, windshield, windows, roof, truck cab, trailer top, and intermodal freight container tops before operating on Delaware highways.

Violators may be stopped by law enforcement and face a civil penalty of $25-$75 for failure to remove ice and snow, with each 24-hour period counting as only one violation regardless of multiple offenses.

Exception applies to vehicles operated during ongoing snow or ice storms and to parked vehicles.

If ice or snow dislodges from a moving vehicle and causes physical injury or property damage, non-commercial vehicle operators face $200-$1,000 penalties while commercial vehicle operators face $500-$1,500 penalties.

No motor vehicle points are assessed for violations of this section.
