Requires respondents subject to domestic violence protective orders to relinquish firearms and ammunition to police within 24 hours of personal service, and file certification of compliance with the court within 48 hours

Prohibits persons subject to Family Court protection from abuse orders from purchasing firearms or ammunition immediately upon entry of the order, and from possessing any deadly weapon within 24 hours of service

Expands the definition of "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" to include offenses committed by persons in substantive dating relationships or who cohabited with the victim at the time of or within 5 years prior to the offense

Requires courts to indicate on conviction records whether an applicable offense was a "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" for purposes of firearm possession prohibitions

Mandates law enforcement seek search warrants within 48 hours when probable cause exists that a respondent failed to relinquish firearms as ordered; takes effect January 1, 2017
