HB 181 Summary

• Codifies multidisciplinary team requirements for child abuse and neglect cases involving death, serious physical injury, sexual abuse, human trafficking, or torture of a child.

• Expands Investigation Coordinator duties to include participation on multidisciplinary teams, notification to law enforcement and Department of Justice, and reporting to professional regulatory organizations within 5 business days.

• Requires law enforcement to notify Department of Justice upon receipt of reports involving death or serious physical injury, conduct criminal investigations for multidisciplinary cases, and participate as team members in case coordination.

• Mandates that children ages 3-12 and suspected human trafficking victims be interviewed in children's advocacy centers absent good cause, and authorizes nurse practitioners to take temporary emergency protective custody of children in imminent danger.

• Updates disclosure rules to protect family privacy while allowing information sharing with multidisciplinary team members and establishing guidelines for releasing information based on legitimate public safety or child health and safety needs.
