HB 220 Summary

• Establishes the Addiction Action Committee to develop and monitor a comprehensive approach to Delaware's addiction epidemic, with focus on prevention, treatment, surveillance, and accessible pain management.

• Committee composed of 17 members including the Secretary of DHSS (as chair), Deputy Secretary, and heads of State, Safety and Homeland Security, Children/Youth/Family Services, and Education departments, plus the Attorney General.

• Governor appoints 8 additional members including 2 physicians nominated by Medical Society of Delaware, nurse, pharmacist, drug treatment facility representative, pharmaceutical industry representative, healthcare facility representative, private insurance carrier representative, and 2 community members.

• Committee required to submit annual reports beginning June 1, 2018 to Governor and General Assembly with recommendations on progress and improvements to reduce mortality and morbidity from addictive drugs.

• Department of Health and Social Services provides administrative support and data access necessary for committee operations.
