Delaware's state museum system earned accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, the highest recognition for museums in the United States.

The accredited system comprises five state museums: John Dickinson Plantation, Johnson Victrola Museum, Old State House, New Castle Court House Museum, and Zwaanendael Museum, plus archaeological and historic collections.

Approximately 1,000 of the nation's estimated 33,000 museums are accredited, with only two other museums in Delaware holding this distinction.

Accreditation required a rigorous year-long self-study, peer review site visit, and final review by an independent body of museum professionals.

The resolution recognizes the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs staff and leadership for their diligent work meeting accreditation standards and preserving Delaware's history.
