Healthcare providers must provide written notice to patients at the time blood is drawn for Lyme disease testing, informing them that laboratory tests can produce false negatives and false positives.

The required notice must instruct patients to contact their healthcare provider if they continue to experience unexplained symptoms to inquire about retesting or additional treatment.

The notice requirement does not create a legal cause of action, standard of care, obligation, or duty that could form the basis for lawsuits.

Information about this notice requirement or evidence of violations is inadmissible in civil, judicial, or administrative proceedings.

This bill is modeled on similar laws in Virginia and Maryland and removes a sunset provision that was included in the previous version (SB 15 from the 150th General Assembly).
