School districts, charter schools, and the Department of Education must update former student records to reflect legal name or gender changes when provided with government-issued documentation.

Schools may reissue diplomas, high school equivalency certificates, transcripts, and similar documents with updated legal names or genders upon request from former students.

Acceptable documentation for name or gender changes includes state-issued driver's licenses, birth certificates, passports, social security cards, and final court orders.

Former students requesting reissued documents must pay any associated fees; schools are not required to modify or reissue records unless specifically requested.

Schools must create a new file document recording the date of request, date of reissuance, list of reissued documents, documentation type provided, staff member name, and both current and former names or genders.
