Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was founded January 13, 1913, at Howard University and has over 300,000 members in more than 1,000 chapters worldwide

Delaware has six chapters (Wilmington Alumnae, Dover Alumnae, Epsilon Alpha, Mu Pi, Sussex County Alumnae, and Middletown Alumnae) representing over 700 members

The sorority focuses on five programmatic areas: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Social Action through Political Awareness and Involvement

Delaware chapters implement programs including Delta GEMS, Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, EMBODI, scholarships, health initiatives, voter registration, and community service efforts
