Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) affects approximately 10,000 Americans annually, with patients averaging age 72 but approximately one-third diagnosed under age 65.

Three types of cholangiocarcinoma exist based on location: intrahepatic (in liver bile ducts), perihilar (where hepatic ducts join), and distal (near small intestine).

Early detection is critical for surgical treatment, but difficult due to bile ducts being deep in the body and lack of reliable blood tests; current 5-year survival rate is 2 to 30% with no cure currently available.

Kelly green signifies cholangiocarcinoma awareness; resolution recognizes global efforts by foundations, research centers, and charities to increase awareness and research of the disease.
