Senate Bill 116 Summary

• Adopts the PA Licensure Compact, allowing physician assistants licensed in one member state to obtain a "Compact Privilege" to practice in other member states under those states' laws and regulations.

• Establishes the PA Licensure Compact Commission as an interstate administrative body composed of one delegate per participating state to administer the compact and promulgate rules with the force of law.

• Creates a national data system to maintain coordinated information on physician assistant licensure, adverse actions, and investigative findings across participating states.

• Requires participating states to implement criminal background checks, recognize the national NCCPA certification exam, and report adverse actions and significant investigative information to the Commission.

• Compact becomes effective upon enactment by the seventh state; currently one state has enacted it and at least four others are considering legislation.
