Designates May 1–7, 2023, as "Tardive Dyskinesia Awareness Week" in Delaware.

Tardive Dyskinesia is a movement disorder affecting people treated for chronic mental health conditions including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and severe depression.

Long-term antipsychotic medication treatment may cause Tardive Dyskinesia in approximately one out of every four patients, characterized by involuntary muscle movements in the face, trunk, and extremities.

Over 600,000 Americans have been diagnosed with Tardive Dyskinesia, which can develop long after treatment begins or even after medication discontinuation and is often permanent.

The FDA has recently approved two new treatments for Tardive Dyskinesia symptoms; the resolution encourages Delawareans to become better informed about the disorder.
