Proclaims May 2025 as "Community Action Month" in Delaware to recognize Community Action Agencies established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964

First State Community Action Agency, incorporated in 1966, is Delaware's first and only federally recognized Community Action Agency, serving over 11,877 people annually

As of September 2023, the agency provided affordable housing to 251 individuals, helped 96 families avoid foreclosure, assisted 1,199 individuals in avoiding eviction, and helped 1,268 households avoid utility shutoff

Nationally, approximately 1,000 Community Action Agencies serve 96% of U.S. counties and more than 16.2 million individuals per year

The agency also provided 343 jobs and offers programs for senior citizens, youth enrichment, and workforce development to address root causes of poverty
