HB 593 - Health Care Summary

• Establishes the Office of Public Health Nutrition within the Department of Health and renames Chapter 385 as the "Healthy and Fit Florida Act"

• Creates new state and community-level programs for chronic disease prevention and health promotion, including initiatives for physical activity, obesity prevention, and nutrition education

• Establishes the State Employee Wellness Interagency Council to develop and implement evidence-based wellness programs for state agency employees

• Reorganizes cancer-related programs by renumbering existing statutes (Jessie Trice Cancer Prevention Program, Prostate Cancer Awareness Program, Florida Cancer Council, and cancer research programs) and removes the Cervical Cancer Elimination Task Force

• Removes restrictions on breast and cervical cancer screenings based on Medicaid expenditure limits and allows the Department of Health to establish a direct-support organization to support chronic disease prevention efforts
