North Broward Hospital District is directed to pay Charles Pandrea $608,554.78 as compensation for the death of his wife, Janet Pandrea, resulting from medical negligence.

Janet Pandrea died on April 2, 2002, after receiving chemotherapy treatment based on a misdiagnosis of benign thymoma as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma by pathologist Peter Tsivis, M.D.

A Broward County jury returned a verdict of $808,554.78 against North Broward Hospital District on June 8, 2005; the district has already paid the statutory limit of $200,000 under Florida law, leaving $608,554.78 as the remaining obligation.

Attorney fees, lobbying fees, costs, and other similar expenses related to this claim are limited to 25 percent of the amount awarded under this act.

The payment and the statutory payment of $200,000 are intended to provide sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from Janet Pandrea's death.
