Department of Education shall adopt grade-placement assessments for grades 1 through 8 to determine proper grade placement for students enrolling in public school from private schools, parochial/religious schools, home education programs, or private tutoring programs

School districts must administer grade-placement assessments to eligible students prior to grade placement based on performance standards approved by the State Board of Education

Assessments shall provide objective data demonstrating student progression and readiness for placement in the next grade level

Parents of enrolling students must permit their child to take the grade-placement assessment regardless of enrollment date during the school year

Effective date is July 1, 2010
