Palm Beach County School Board is authorized to appropriate $180,000 to Ashraf Kamel as personal representative of the Estate of Jean A. Pierre Kamel for wrongful death damages.

Palm Beach County School Board is authorized to appropriate $180,000 to Marguerite Dimitri for wrongful death damages resulting from the death of their minor child Jean A. Pierre Kamel.

The $360,000 total appropriation compensates for the death of 13-year-old Jean A. Pierre Kamel, who was shot on January 27, 1997, in front of Conniston Middle School; a February 2002 jury found the school board 80 percent liable with $2 million in damages, later reduced by court to $1,602,400.

Attorney's fees, lobbying fees, costs, and other similar expenses relating to this claim are limited to 25 percent of the total amounts awarded under the act.

The payments provide sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from Jean A. Pierre Kamel's death.
