SB 2662 - Water Resource Protection

• Authorizes counties to use water and sewage utility funds to finance protection of primary water resources, including acquiring easements or fee interests for land where water resources are located, flow from, or are recharged.

• Requires county commissions and municipalities using state water resources for supply to conduct evaluations in cooperation with water management districts to determine if primary water sources are adequately protected from pollution and incompatible land uses.

• Allows counties and municipalities to transfer collected utility funds to water management districts for water resource protection purposes, with title to acquired lands remaining with the district.

• Authorizes water management districts to expend funds received from county and municipal water utilities for land acquisition and water resource development projects protecting primary drinking water sources, including lands identified under watershed restoration plans.

• Effective date: July 1, 2010.
