Authorizes the North Broward Hospital District (d/b/a Coral Springs Medical Center) to pay $2 million to Laron S. Harris, Jr. and his parents Melinda Williams and Laron S. Harris, Sr. for injuries caused by medical negligence

Laron S. Harris, Jr. was born on April 1, 2003 with severe brain damage due to perinatal asphyxia after medical staff delayed diagnosing a placental abruption and performing an emergency cesarean section

The mother arrived at the hospital at 5:45 a.m. with significant bleeding, but surgery did not begin until 10:14 a.m. despite a doctor's recommendation for further ultrasound testing at 7:55 a.m.

The case was previously settled through mediation for $2.2 million total, with $200,000 already paid under the state's sovereign immunity waiver and this bill covering the remaining $2 million

Attorney's fees, lobbying fees, costs, and related expenses are limited to no more than 25% of the amount awarded under this act
