Requires physical education instruction for kindergarten through grade 5 be delivered by a certified physical education teacher, with implementation over a 5-year period from 2012-2013 through 2016-2017 school years.

Mandates 150 minutes per week of physical education instruction by a certified teacher for grade 6 students enrolled in schools containing elementary grades, with at least 30 consecutive minutes per day.

Changes physical education instruction requirement for grades 6-8 from optional use of any instructional personnel to mandatory instruction by a certified physical education teacher, implemented during the same 5-year period.

Allows students to have physical education requirements waived for one semester each year if enrolled in remedial courses, enrolled in another course of their choice, or participating in physical activities outside school equal to or exceeding mandated requirements.

Effective July 1, 2011.
