Each district school board must provide and every high school student must complete a 1-week course in human sexuality during each of the 4 years of high school with medically accurate information.

The human sexuality course must cover abstinence, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases (with definitions, symptoms, transmission methods, and prevention), and teen pregnancies.

The Department of Education shall develop the uniform coursework with input from teachers, school administrators, students, parents, and medical professionals; course content must be available in resource packets upon student request.

Schools providing instruction on human sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, or AIDS must emphasize that abstinence is a certain way to avoid unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, teach students they can control personal behavior, and provide medically accurate grade-appropriate material.

Parents may request a written exemption from the school principal to exempt their student from human sexuality or sexually transmitted disease instruction without penalty to the student; effective July 1, 2011.
