Miami-Dade County is authorized to appropriate and pay $1,010,000 to the Co-Personal Representatives of Ana-Yency Velasquez's estate for the benefit of her three minor children (Ronnie Lopez Jr., Ashley Lorena Lopez-Velasquez, and Steven Robert Guzman).

The payment compensates for Ana-Yency Velasquez's death on February 23, 2009, when a Miami-Dade County Police Officer failed to obey a stop sign and engage emergency lights/sirens while pursuing another vehicle, striking and killing her at the intersection of N.W. 112th St. and N.W. 12th Ave.

Miami-Dade County previously paid $150,000 under the statutory liability limit of section 768.28, Florida Statutes; this bill authorizes an additional $1,010,000 beyond the statutory cap.

Attorney's fees, lobbying fees, costs, and similar expenses relating to this claim are limited to 25 percent of the total $1,010,000 award.

This award constitutes the sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from Ana-Yency Velasquez's death.
