CS/HB 1263 Summary

• Establishes the "Small Trucker Relief Act" and defines "small trucking firm" as a trucking enterprise with fewer than 30 employees or fewer than 50 trucks in operation.

• Creates the Trucking Regulation Workgroup consisting of representatives from five state departments, three small trucking firm owners/employees appointed by the Governor, and one Florida Trucking Association member, with the Department of Transportation Secretary serving as chair.

• Members serve without compensation and cannot be reimbursed for travel expenses.

• Requires the workgroup to deliver a report to the Governor and Legislature by October 1, 2011, providing legislative recommendations on idling penalties, corporate tax credits, cargo theft and criminal penalties, truck washing exemptions, random truck inspections, and improved access to motor vehicle registration services.

• Automatically dissolves the workgroup on November 1, 2011.
