CS/HB 1329 Summary

• Expands John M. McKay Scholarships for Students with Disabilities to include students with a 504 accommodation plan issued under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, in addition to those with individual education plans.

• Excludes students with temporary 504 accommodation plans valid for 6 months or less from scholarship eligibility.

• Requires school districts to notify parents within 10 days after a 504 accommodation plan is issued about available educational options, including private school scholarships and enrollment in other public schools.

• Allows parents to enroll eligible students in public schools in adjacent school districts that have available space and appropriate services in place.

• Establishes scholarship amounts for 504 plan students based on the program cost factor the student currently generates through the Florida Education Finance Program, effective July 1, 2011.
