CS/HB 7157 Summary

• Revises the definition of "rehabilitation provider" to require nationally recognized credentials (C.R.R.N., C.R.C., C.C.M., C.D.M.S., C.V.E., or C.O.H.N.) instead of Department of Education approval, eliminating the need for a directory of approved providers.

• Modifies carrier reporting requirements by requiring carriers to report reemployment status determinations to both the Department of Education and the employee at 60 days post-injury and every 90 days thereafter.

• Eliminates Department of Education authority to approve formal training and education programs, removing provisions allowing use of Workers' Compensation Trust Funds for training costs, board, lodging, and travel expenses.

• Removes Department of Education responsibilities for monitoring rehabilitation providers, establishing qualifications standards, and collecting biennial application fees; also eliminates the Department's role in monitoring carrier practices.

• Changes training and education procedures by allowing the Department to screen eligibility and requires carriers to provide employees copies of reemployment assessments and plans upon referral.
