Individual and group health insurance policies and health maintenance contracts issued, amended, delivered, or renewed in Florida on or after October 1, 2011, must provide up to $200 coverage for noninvasive cardiovascular screening tests.

Covered individuals are males aged 46-75 or females aged 56-75 who have two or more risk factors including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, current or recent smoking, or family history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Covered screening tests include computed tomography scanning measuring coronary artery calcification or ultrasonography measuring carotid intima-media thickness and plaque, performed by licensed laboratories with performance-based certification.

Screening tests are covered every 5 years, or every 2 years for individuals with abnormal ultrasonography results.

Effective date is July 1, 2011.
