District school boards must identify in their emergency procedures policies which agency is responsible for notifying the district of occurrences that threaten student safety.

Emergency management and preparedness procedures for life-threatening situations (weapons, hazardous materials, weather emergencies, manmade emergencies) must include agency notification requirements.

The designated agency responsible for notifying school districts must also notify private schools in the district that have opted into the school district's notification procedures.

The effective date of the act is July 1, 2011.
