CS/HB 285 - Sick Leave for School District Employees

• Each district school system must provide a policy allowing employees to donate accrued sick leave to their spouse, child, parent, or sibling who is also a district employee
• Each district school system may optionally provide a policy allowing employees to donate sick leave to any other district employee
• District policies must require recipients to provide physician documentation of illness, accident, or injury and establish minimum sick leave days needed to participate and minimum days the donor must retain
• Unused transferred sick leave must be returned to the donating employee, and recipients cannot use donated sick leave until their own sick leave is depleted (excluding sick leave pool amounts)
• Effective date: July 1, 2012
