CS/HB 309 Summary

• Defines "specialty technologist" as a person qualified by education and certification to use radiation on human beings under the direction and supervision of a licensed practitioner.

• Allows specialty technologists to use the title "Certified Radiologic Technologist-X" (CRT-X) where X represents their specialty area (e.g., CT for computed tomography, PET for positron emission tomography).

• Permits specialty technologists to perform duties defined by the Department of Health that fall within the scope of practice set by national organizations for their specialty area.

• Requires specialty technologist certification only by endorsement rather than examination; applicants must demonstrate they hold a current certificate or registration from a national organization in an advanced, postprimary, or specialty area of radiologic technology.

• Department may issue endorsement certificates for a nonrefundable fee not to exceed $100 to qualifying applicants; effective July 1, 2012.
