CS/HB 413 - Chiropractic Medicine

• Allows both full-time and part-time faculty appointments at accredited chiropractic colleges to qualify for chiropractic medicine faculty certificates without examination.

• Authorizes Board of Chiropractic Medicine to approve continuing education courses sponsored by chiropractic colleges upon review, but prohibits approval of courses that consist solely of instruction in specific company branded products or services.

• Requires chiropractic physicians to pass National Board of Chiropractic Examiners Parts I, II, III, and IV exams plus physiotherapy exam; establishes that graduates more than 10 years after education may need to take Special Purposes Examination.

• Increases patient fund protection threshold from $500 to $501 and limits advances for examination or treatment costs to $1,500; requires separate identifiable bank accounts for patient funds.

• Expands entities authorized to employ chiropractic physicians to include limited liability companies, limited partnerships, professional associations, health maintenance organizations, and prepaid health clinics; allows surviving spouses or adult children of deceased physicians to hold practice ownership interests.

• Effective date: July 1, 2012.
