Failure to return hired or leased property within 5 days after receiving a demand via courier service with tracking capability or certified mail is prima facie evidence of abandonment or refusal to return.

Notice sent by courier with tracking capability or certified mail to the renter's address on file is deemed sufficient notice even if returned undelivered.

Failure to pay amounts due after the rental period expires and a demand for return is made is prima facie evidence of abandonment, including unpaid rental fees and lesser of repair or replacement costs for damaged property.

Demands for return and payment can be made in person, by hand delivery, certified mail, or courier service with tracking capability.

A lessor of an unreturned vehicle meeting the section's requirements may report the vehicle as stolen to law enforcement and have it listed as stolen on local or national registries.
