Mandates charter school applications include descriptions of online courses with reasonable and allowable accommodations for reading instruction, including assistive technology devices like screen readers and open captions.

Requires virtual instruction program providers approved by the Department of Education to demonstrate prior successful experience offering online courses with reasonable and allowable accommodations for students with disabilities.

Makes students with disabilities who have an individual education plan (IEP) or Section 504 accommodation plan eligible to participate in virtual instruction if they can access it with reasonable and allowable accommodations.

Effective date: July 1, 2012.
