HB 1035 Summary

• Department of Elderly Affairs shall develop and implement a public education program relating to screening for memory impairment and early diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.

• Creates a memory-impairment screening grant program administered by the department to award grants to public and nonprofit private entities that provide education and screening services for Alzheimer's disease.

• Department shall prioritize grant applicants with demonstrated experience in memory screening, established arrangements with health care providers, and ability to provide matching funds.

• Grant recipients must submit annual evaluations to the department describing activities, effectiveness in promoting early detection, and other required information; department shall submit annual report to Legislature.

• Amends employee training requirements across multiple facility types (assisted living, nursing homes, hospices, adult day care centers, home health agencies) to allow workers to transfer between facilities without repeating Alzheimer's training if they hold a valid training certificate; effective July 1, 2012.
