HB 1075 Summary

• Renames Chapter 385, Florida Statutes as the "Healthy and Fit Florida Act" and establishes comprehensive chronic disease prevention and health promotion programs focusing on diseases including heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and lung disease.

• Transfers and renumbers multiple cancer-related programs under the Department of Health, including the Jessie Trice Cancer Prevention Program, Prostate Cancer Awareness Program, William G. "Bill" Bankhead Jr. and David Coley Cancer Research Program, and breast and cervical cancer early detection programs.

• Creates new state and community-level chronic disease prevention programs requiring the Department of Health to address preventable risk factors such as obesity, physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and smoking.

• Establishes employee wellness programs for state agencies and authorizes the Department of Health to develop physical fitness, obesity prevention, and nutrition promotion initiatives statewide.

• Removes the provision limiting breast and cervical cancer screenings based on projected Medicaid expenditures and requires cancer reporting facilities to make records available for onsite review; repeals several obsolete health program statutes; effective July 1, 2012.
