HB 1083 - Unemployment Compensation

• Amends section 443.036 to update and revise definitions related to unemployment compensation, including changes to "agricultural labor," "American vessel," "casual labor," "employee leasing company," and "employing unit" definitions.

• Revises the definition of "good cause" in section 443.101 to include domestic violence as verified by reasonable and confidential documentation when an employee reasonably believes continued employment jeopardizes their safety or the safety of an immediate family member.

• Modifies section 443.1216 regarding employment subject to unemployment compensation, including requirements for employee leasing companies to submit quarterly reports to the Department of Economic Opportunity with specific establishment and wage information.

• Amends section 443.131 regarding contribution rates and the transfer of employment records between employers in business transfers, mergers, and consolidations, clarifying the definition of "contributions" to include all indebtedness such as interest, penalties, and fees.

• Effective date: July 1, 2012.
