Department of Health authorized to issue emergency orders restricting controlled substance prescribing privileges for health care practitioners (physicians, osteopaths, dentists, and chiropractors) who commit, are arrested for, or are under criminal investigation for violations of chapter 782 (homicide laws) or controlled substance offenses under federal law or chapter 893

Emergency license restrictions apply when practitioner is involved in importation, manufacture, distribution, possession, transfer, sale, improper use, or prescribing of controlled substances

Courts must consider whether suspension or restriction of a professional license is necessary to protect the community against unreasonable danger when determining bail and release conditions for criminal defendants

Act takes effect July 1, 2012
